BiPAP is a small, easily operated machine that helps a person with COPD to breathe. When using a BiPAP machine, a person takes in pressurized air through a mask to regulate their breathing pattern while they are asleep or when their symptoms flare.
BiPAP machines are often prescribed to sleep apnea patients with high pressure settings or low oxygen levels. BiPAPs are often used after CPAP has failed to adequately treat certain patients. BiPAPs can be helpful for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders such as congestive heart failure.
CPAP machines are another kind of small, pressurized breathing device. BiPAP is normally the preferred option for people with COPD.
The main difference is that, while CPAP helps a person inhale by using one kind of pressure, BiPAP helps a person both inhale and exhale by using two different pressures. This means that exhaling is easier with BiPAP machines.
CPAP works by holding the airways open through continuous pressure, whether the individual is breathing in or out. This pressure stops the upper airways from collapsing, which makes breathing easier and helps to prevent oxygen levels from falling while the person is asleep.
Both BiPAP and CPAP machines can also be used to treat heart failure, which is a possible complication of COPD. This therapy lowers the amount of blood that is returned to the heart, meaning that it is under less strain.
A doctor can prescribe CPAP or BiPAP machines to be used at home or in the hospital.
Doctors believe that daily use of BiPAP not only improves the quality of sleep for people with severe COPD, but it can also extend a person's life. The use of BiPAP machines may also reduce the rate of hospital admissions among people with COPD.
BiPAP machines can also be used in emergency situations. In a flare-up of COPD symptoms, a BiPAP machine can take some of the load off a person's breathing muscles and heart, allowing them to breathe more easily. It also boosts oxygen levels and normalizes carbon dioxide levels.
A study from 2015 reports that using BiPAP in the emergency room reduces the need for invasive treatments, improves outcomes, and shortens a person's hospital visit.
COPD is the name given to a range of chronic lung conditions that cause breathing difficulty. Learn more about the causes, symptoms, and treatments for COPD here.
A doctor typically prescribes a CPAP machine to an individual after he or she has completed a thorough diagnostic sleep study. Once you receive your test results from your family doctor, we'll be able to start you on a CPAP machine that is right for your condition and budget.

Common sleep apnea symptoms include:
Waking up with a very sore or dry throat
Loud snoring
Occasionally waking up with a choking or gasping sensation
Sleepiness or lack of energy during the day
Sleepiness while driving
Morning headaches
Restless sleep
Forgetfulness, mood changes, and a decreased interest in sex
CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. The CPAP machine, connected to the user through a facemask, provides relief by pumping air into the patient's airways. The positive airflow keeps the airways open while the person is sound asleep, thus eliminating the cessation of breathing that occurs due to sleep apnea.
Auto CPAP Machines: These machines automatically adjust the pressure depending on a few variables such as breathing rate, blood pressure and other important information inputs.
Standard CPAP Machines: fixed pressure CPAP machines provide a continuous stream of pressure while they are turned on. They are great for people who suffer from COPD and require constant airflow pumped throughout the night.
Auto-CPAP & CPAP Machine Packages: We offer individual CPAP machines, as well as a range of therapy support products. Each machine we carry is designed to meet a user's specific needs and our sleep apnea therapy machines come with lifetime support and care from our highly trained professional staff here at Respro India.
It's a practical solution for people suffering from sleep apnea, and provides the necessary symptom relief. It is also:
A less invasive and safer alternative to surgery.
Responsible for a drastic reduction in, if not complete elimination of, the cessation of breathing during sleep.
Linked to a reduction in risk for hypertension, heart disease and other conditions OSA sufferers are less at risk for when used regularly.
Essential when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep and reducing the effects of daytime exhaustion.
Instrumental in lessening nighttime snoring, and helping those close to you get a restful sleep as well.
Light and portable, allowing you to take it with you on your travels.

Most patients will require a period of adjusting to the presence of the CPAP mask on the face and the feel of the air pressure delivered by the CPAP unit. The time of this adjustment is variable - anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. I have had some patients take months to adjust to CPAP.
The main difference between BiPAP and CPAP machines is that CPAP machines can only be set to a single pressure that remains consistent throughout the night. However, many CPAP machines have a ramp feature that starts off with a lower pressure setting and gradually builds to the prescribed pressure. BiPAP machines have two pressure settings: the prescribed pressure for inhalation (ipap), and a lower pressure for exhalation (epap). The dual settings allow the patient to get more air in and out of their lungs.
